Berkey Water Filter For The Win

Up until a few months ago, my family relied on our refrigerator’s water filter to remove impurities from our water. Now, being a fairly-informed wellness enthusiast, I knew it probably wasn’t hacking it in terms of removing all of the toxic chemicals that reside in water. But, well, I was lazy and didn’t want to dive into all the research that I was certain awaited me. (You know me and my tendency to go down the rabbit hole, folks.)

Then I saw this article about the dangerously high levels of Chromium-6 in our local water supply and was like…

So I hopped over to my trusted EWG website to see what they had to say about it, and saw this map.

See Oklahoma? See the dark blue squares? Yep, that’s where I live. And this was my response:

It was time for me to find a solution.

Enter The Big Berkey.

What is The Big Berkey, you ask?

Well, the Berkey Water Filter is the world’s most effective (and most cost-effective) personal water purification system available. It uses gravity water filtration technology to remove toxic elements, parasites, bacteria and hundreds of other contaminants from water without removing the beneficial minerals, and without the use of any electricity.

Many of my favorite, well-respected wellness bloggers and friends use the Berkey filtration system, so when Berkey reached out to see if I would be interested in giving one a shot, I decided it was time to make the jump. And, well, we love it. Super easy to assemble and use, it works perfectly for our family.

Here’s a brief video I did on Instagram stories with some Berkey details.

All in all, this system removes pathogenic bacteria, viruses, cysts and parasites entirely and extracts harmful chemicals such as herbicides, pesticides, VOCs, organic solvents, radon 222 and trihalomethanes. It also reduces nitrates, nitrites and heavy metals such as lead and mercury. This system is so powerful it can remove food coloring from water without removing the beneficial minerals your body needs. Virtually no other system can duplicate this performance.

The one question I’ve been asked repeatedly is, “what if you want to drink cold water since the unit isn’t refrigerated?” Well, I personally drink water that is room temperature (for these reasons), but we do keep a pitcher of the filtered water in the refrigerator. You could also make ice with the filtered water too.

I am so happy I don’t have to worry about what’s in my water any longer. It gives me peace of mind, which is huge. All in all, loving The Big Berkey. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me in the comments!
